CRITERIA OF MEDICAL ETHICS FOR HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS

Medical ethics is good characteristics of healthcare providers, and is displayed by the high responsibility, altruism and empathy. “A good doctor is like an affectionate mother”, President Ho Chi Minh once said. Be honest, united, overcome challenges and complete the tasks, wholeheartedly contribute towards medicine field in Vietnam. Medical ethics is displayed by moral standards and rules which have been approved by society.

  1. Health care is a noble profession. As you willingly become a healthcare provider, follow President Ho Chi Minh’s lessons seriously. Be conscientious, responsible, love your job, and continuously train to have virtue of healthcare providers. Learn incessantly and be interested in research to enhance academic knowledge. Be ready to overcome all challenges in order to provide healthcare service to people.
  2. Follow the law and occupational procedures. Do not experiment on patient with diagnosis, treatment or research methods without approval from Ministry of Health or consent from that patient.
  3. Respect patients’ rights regarding healthcare service utilization. Be confidential and wittingly when providing healthcare service. Pay attention to highly-deserved groups of individuals. Do not discriminate on grounds of disease. Do not think that you have done a favor, misuse the practices or irritate the patients. Be honest about healthcare service fees.
  4. Always be attentive and devoted to the patients and their families; and be groomed and in presentable uniforms to earn their trust. Explain the natural history of disease to the patients and their families so that they understand and collaborate on treatment; delineate the order, policies, benefits and responsibilities of the patients; motivate, console and encourage the patients in treatment and physical exercise to rehabilitate. Take good care of the patients with severe disease or bad prognosis, and keep the family informed.
  5. During an emergency, make diagnosis and give treatment urgently.
  6. Give prescription according to the diagnosis and guarantee the prescription medicines are rational and safe; do not give the patients low-quality or inappropriate drugs because of personal benefits.
  7. Do not have distractions when on duty; monitor closely the progress of the patient’s disease.
  8. Carefully give advice to the patients regarding hospital discharge prescriptions and health maintenance.
  9. If the patient is dead, empathize with the family and help them with required procedures.
  10. Be honest and united with peers; respect teachers and peers; pass down knowledge and help each other.
  11. Willingly take responsibility and do not blame peers and primary health care on errors.
  12. Be eager to deliver public health messages, prevent diseases and accidents in community, have exemplary behavior of personal hygiene and environment maintenance.
